Art Ross, a highly respected Structural Engineer whose career spanned more than 50 years, will be remembered not only for the structures he helped bring to life, but also for the integrity, wisdom, and dedication he brought to his profession. His legacy endures in the many projects he influenced, the standards he helped advance, and the people who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Art brought both leadership and strength to every team he joined. He was adept at managing intricate team structures, building trust among collaborators and working closely with clients, with professionalism and care.
Among his many honors, Art was recognized by the Structural Engineers Association of Central California as a Fellow, a distinction granted by his peers in recognition of outstanding service and accomplishments in structural engineering.
Art leaves behind a legacy marked by professional excellence and meaningful contributions to the advancement of codes, guidelines, and engineering practice.

1999-July 2026
In 1999, after 23 years leading his own practice, Arthur E. Ross, S.E. joined Cole, Yee, Schubert & Associates through a merger. His experience and influence helped shape the firm, which officially became CYS Structural Engineers Inc. in 2004.
Art brought steady leadership, technical strength, and genuine care to every team and project. He had a remarkable ability to guide complex teams, earn the trust of colleagues and collaborators, and build lasting client relationships grounded in professionalism and respect.
Art’s legacy lives on in the excellence he modeled and in his meaningful contributions to the advancement of codes, guidelines, and engineering practice. The CYS team is profoundly grateful for his leadership, mentorship, and friendship—and for the lasting impact he made on our firm, our profession, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
1963-1999
Our story began in 1963 when Eugene Cole and Jimmie Yee founded one of Sacramento’s few structural engineering firms, Cole and Yee Structural Engineers. In 1977, Carl Schubert joined as a partner, and the firm became Cole, Yee, Schubert & Associates. Early achievements include the first building renovation in Old Sacramento, Sutter General Hospital, Capitol Bank of Commerce, the original NBA Arco Arena, Sacramento Convention Center, and the UCDMC Cancer Center.
