The Health Systems Education Building consists of two structurally separate, plan irregular, four-story buildings totaling approximately 120,000 SF. The buildings are steel-framed with lateral force-resisting systems that consist of Special Concentrically Braced Frames supported on a system of concrete grade beams and drilled piers. The exterior of the building is clad with glass and architectural precast concrete panels. Unique structural design challenges included supporting the elevated floors of the North building on the columns of the South building across a seismic separation joint using neoprene/Teflon and stainless steel bearing pads.
