CYS was about halfway through the structural design when news about steel moment resisting frame (SMRF) joint damage caused by the Northridge Earthquake began emerging. As a result, we incorporated the most up-to-date information available at the time to develop enhanced joints using cover plates. The moment resisting frame does not impact usable square feet, unlike other earthquake-protected frames, and provides critical columns and beams in the structure to withstand a considerable seismic event.
