In the Beginning . . .
Our story actually begins in 1963 when Eugene Cole and Jimmie Yee paired up to open one of the few structural engineering offices in Sacramento, Cole and Yee Structural Engineers. Ken Luttrell was the very first employee of the firm. When Carl Schubert became a partner, the name of the firm changed to Cole, Yee, Schubert & Associates. Early accomplishments of the firm include the first building renovation in Old Sacramento, Sutter General Hospital, Capitol Bank of Commerce, the original NBA Arco Arena, Sacramento Convention Center, and UCDMC Cancer Center.
Gene and Jimmie both retired from the firm in 1988. Jimmie went on to serve on the Sacramento City Council, as Mayor, and to serving on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. After completing a two-year assignment in Turkey supervising the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged structures, Gene occasionally returned to the firm on a part-time basis to assist with plan checking services. Gene and Jimmie’s friendship lasts to this day.
Merging of Two Firms . . .
Art Ross merged his firm with Cole, Yee, Schubert in 1999 after 23 years in business for himself. Carl Schubert retired from the firm shortly thereafter and, along with pursuing other exciting ventures, is still practicing engineering. In 2004, the firm name changed to CYS Structural Engineers Inc.
